Also known as Physical Therapy, Physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Many different methods can be utilized, with your treatment plan being determined by your condition as well as the therapist’s recommendation. Physiotherapy includes both rehabilitation (after sustaining an injury) and prehabilitation (treating imbalances to prevent injuries); it is a holistic approach that is beneficial for individuals of all ages which aims to educate and treat patients through hands-on techniques and exercise prescription, among other services.
With 1-on-1 sessions you’re guaranteed to have the attention you deserve throughout your whole appointment, for the extent of your rehabilitation. Therapists are trained at the highest standards to provide you with superior treatments which are tailored to each client’s unique needs. A well-equipped gym also ensures you have the space and equipment to do all of your exercises in a high-end training environment under the supervision of a professional.
Please come on time and dressed in exercise clothing to allow therapists to complete a full assessment. If you have an ICBC claim number or extended health benefits please also bring that information to your first appointment. In order to provide you with safe treatment, therapists will also ask you for your past medical history as well as current medications. All of this information is confidential and is important before engaging in any form of physical activity. The first appointment includes a history of the injury as well as a thorough assessment of not only the injury in question, but also other areas of your body which may have contributed to the injury which are crucial to preventing re-injuries in the future. Afterwards, the injury & diagnosis will be discussed with you, and a treatment plan will be initiated. The first appointment will include some treatment, however, the duration of subsequent appointments will be tailored more to treatment. Please review our new Health and Safety Protocols regarding COVID-19 for up-to-date details.

Yes. Physiotherapy also includes treatment of chronic injuries (i.e. those that occurred >3 months ago). If an old injury is still bothering you it is likely your body’s way of telling you something is not completely back to normal. Physiotherapy can also be beneficial for chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, and Multiple Sclerosis, for example. Therapists educate about the ways in which physical mobility can help patients manage their conditions and increase their quality of life; for these populations tailored treatment plans are vital to achieving optimal physical well-being.
Pre-habilitation refers to physiotherapy assessment and treatment to prevent injuries. It includes a full-body assessment to determine any muscular imbalances in strength or flexibility, as well as skeletal/body positions which may put you at risk for sustaining injuries. Afterwards, a specific exercise plan is developed to address your needs and exercises are performed under a Physiotherapist’s supervision. Pre-habilitation is valuable for anybody who wants to begin exercising or who wants to increase their level of activity (for example to train for a competition) in a safe and regimented way that significantly decreases the risk for injuries. Pre-habilitation is a regular part of Physiotherapy that many people overlook, yet it is included under the regular scope of practice and is fully covered by any Extended Health Providers that cover Physiotherapy services.
